      Walter Scott McGill Jr., 76, of Pensacola died Wednesday, July 10, 1996, in a local nursing home after a lengthy illness.   Mr McGill was born in Omaha, Neb. on July 15, 1919. He graduated from Ft. Dodge (Iowa) High School in 1938. He joined the US Navy in 1940. He served o the USS Independence and the USS Ranger in the Pacific War Zone during World War II. After the War, he served on the USS Columbus. He was stationed at the Photo School, NAS Pensacola in 1950. He later became a 1st Class Instructor at the Photo School. He married Denbigh Kitson in 1954.

      He retired from active duty in 1962 as  a Chief Petty Officer and started his own photo business in Pensacola. He served as the official photographer for many organizations for over 15 years, including: the Pensacola Sports Association, the Diocese of Florida and the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast for the Episcopal Church, the Navy League, Fiesta of Five Flags, Seville Quarter, Krewe of LaFitte, Pensacola Power Squadron, and numerous Mardi Gras organisations. He was a regular photographer for over 25 years for Little League, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Eastern Star, Masons, Shriners, Square Dance groups, portraits and weddings. He photographed the second generation of weddings for many families. Mr McGill was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and served on the vestry. He was President of the PTA at Turner-Lee-Day Elementary School and served as Vice President of the Escambia County Council of PTAs. He was a member of the Navy  League and Fleet Reserve, Branch 22. He served as Lt in the Pensacola Power Squadron. He was a member of St Andrews society and enjoyed tracing the family history. Survivors include his wife of 42 years Denbigh Kitson McGill of Pensacola; two sons; one daughter; one daughter-in-law and one son-in-law; Walter and Gail McGill of Atlanta GA;Lawrence and Frances Yeo of Pensacola; and Don McGill of Pensaco la; five grandchildren, Robin, April, Scott McGill of Atlanta, Ga; Maria Elena Yeo of San Francisco, Calif; and Donald Yeo of Pensacola; sister and brother in law Mary Lou and Floyd Peterson of Los Angeles, Calif; two brothers and two siste rs in law, John nad Sharon Ostrom of San Diego, Calif; and Jerry and Joyce Ostrom of Powell, Wyoming and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 10am Monday July 15 1996, in St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev Mark Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Barrancas National Cemetery with Military Honors at the grave. OAK LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 619 New Warrington Rd is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 pm Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St John's Episcopal Church, 401 Live Oak Ave. Warrington. FL 32507, the Parkindons Disease Support Group, c/o Mental Health Association of West Florida, Hospice of Noprtthwest Flori da, or charity of your choice.
